Alice is a prototype of the "caring robot" with a mechanical body and a human face, whose abilities were developed by a team of scientists from the University of Amsterdam. In collaboration with social workers, a pilot program is created in which Alice will share a household with three octogenarians who live alone. At first they don't trust their new caregiver, but ultimately they find a way. Slowly they begin to converse together, even exercise together or go to the pastry shop. The documentary shows the future of a species designed by modern technology and discusses basic human themes of loneliness, aging and desire for contact.
