Darkhead 0+

(Schwarzkopf), Arman T. Riahi, A 2011, German, Farsi, Turkish, Serbo-Croatian / Czech and English subtitles, 90 min

Nazar is a 25-year-old Austrian rapper with Iranian roots. After spending four weeks in custody on suspicion of armed robbery, he’s now in dire financial straits. Eager for a fresh start, he sets off for Berlin to record his second album, the lyrics of which give full vent to his feelings as a second-generation immigrant. Alongside his two best mates, he recalls a life marred by petty crime, gambling, dysfunctional families and rejection by the majority of society. For Nazar and his fans, rap is an escape from reality and a search for identity.

With numerous scenes from Nazar’s concerts and video shoots, Arman T. Riahi’s film captures the career of the popular hip-hop musician while also portraying the lifestyle of a generation of young immigrants trying to put down roots in a new country.

The screening is in partnership with the Austrian Cultural Forum Prague.
